Today I attended a local event that aimed to raise money for Assisi Animal Sanctuary, supported by local pet store, Armstrong‘s Twisted Fish. The Salty Dog restaurant in Bangor welcomed dogs and their owners to their very own dog show, where dogs could compete to win rosettes and a lot of great prizes.
Of course I brought along my own little mutt, Matisse, and my boyfriend Michael. We entered Matisse into the “Most Appealing Eyes” category, he’s got great, puppy-dog eyes right?
Matisse had tough competition that included this lovely dog and her piercing eyes.
The show was held in The Salty Dog’s kitchen garden, where they had an outside bar and BBQ. It was so surreal to see the restaurant crowded with dogs, sitting at the tables whilst their owners nibbled on burgers and sipped on wine.
There were 12 classes to be judged during the day, including best biscuit catcher, waggiest tail, cutest puppy, best rescue story and best fancy dress.
During the afternoon I met this little dachshund named Casper. I think I fell in love with this little pup!
Matisse had a fun day, making friends with lots of new people and dogs.
This little dog we met was very photogenic, and an unusual crossbreed. The owner told me she’s a mix between a Pug and Shih Tzu!
Malcolm the dog (first left photo) was also entered into the “most appealing eyes” class, more tough competition for Matisse! The Airedale Terrier was one of Michael’s favourite dogs of the day.
This guy was a great character, who was entered into the “Dog who most looks like its owner” class.
I was also fond of this very pretty Bearded Collie.
The classes were judged in a ring in The Salty Dog garden. The winning dogs received rosettes and the owners were given a prize of their own. The “Golden Oldie” winner definitely deserved her prize.
